Compression validation should connect carton material, packed product, stacking pattern and distribution time rather than relying on an unqualified board grade. Buyers can use this workflow to approve the complete pack system and record the limits under which the result remains relevant.

Define the distribution load case

Translate the route into measurable carton demands

Record the packed SKU, units per carton, net and gross weight, external dimensions, moisture-sensitive materials and intended pallet pattern. Then map warehouse stack height, expected dwell, transport mode and whether cartons are floor-loaded or palletized. These inputs determine the load case; a generic carton test without them cannot support a shipment decision.

Connect the pack brief to the freight-booking data handoff so logistics dimensions and weights match the approved pack. If several products share one carton style, identify the heaviest and most deformation-prone combinations rather than assuming the highest gross weight is always worst.

Control carton and packing samples

Test production-representative materials and assembly

Identify board construction, dimensions, joint method, closure tape, liners, inserts and any straps. Test cartons made through the intended converting route and packed with representative product compression and fold. Hand-made samples can differ in scoring, glue and dimensional control, so their limitations must be visible in the approval record.

Condition both carton and bedding under the project's defined environment before measurement or compression work. Use engineering inputs to design a realistic challenge

Calculate the approximate bottom-carton load from cartons above, then apply a documented safety or duration consideration appropriate to the project. Calculations guide the trial but do not replace it because bedding packs can bulge, shift and concentrate force around voids. State every assumption rather than presenting one compression number as universally sufficient.

Run a controlled compression or stacking trial with the approved packed configuration. Observe panel bowing, corner crushing, seam opening, tape lift, product distortion and loss of pallet stability at defined intervals. Photograph consistent elevations and measure dimensions before and after the trial so the decision is not based only on appearance.

Verify the pallet and container interface

Build the planned pallet pattern and confirm carton overhang, interlock, column alignment, layer stability and stretch-wrap restraint. A carton may pass vertical compression while a poor pallet pattern damages unsupported edges. Verify labels remain scannable and handling marks are not hidden by wrap or adjacent cartons.

Review forklift entry, pallet quality, container clearance and load-securing method with the logistics team. Compare the result with the pack-out approval controls. If the shipment is floor-loaded, test the intended wall and door-area pattern separately rather than borrowing pallet conclusions.

The release record should name the carton specification, packed SKU, pack quantity, pallet pattern, test method, conditioning, observations and acceptance decision. Approve only the combinations actually represented or technically justified. Avoid converting an internal trial into a broad performance or legal guarantee.

Revalidate when board source, dimensions, joint, tape, units per carton, product compression, pallet pattern or route changes materially. Connect the release to the pilot and bulk-release gate.
