Why China for Bedding?
China produces over 50 percent of the world textiles, with fully integrated supply chains spanning cotton farming, spinning, weaving, dyeing, and finished product manufacturing. For hospitality buyers, this vertical integration translates to competitive pricing, consistent quality, and the ability to handle orders of any scale — from boutique hotels needing 50 sets to chains requiring 50,000.
Finding the Right Supplier
Trade Shows and Platforms
The Canton Fair, held twice yearly in Guangzhou, remains the premier venue for connecting with Chinese textile manufacturers. Intertextile Shanghai and Heimtextil are also essential stops. Online, platforms like Alibaba and Made-in-China offer extensive supplier directories, but due diligence is critical — request factory audits, certifications, and client references before committing.
Red Flags to Watch For
Beware of suppliers who cannot provide verifiable certifications like OEKO-TEX, GOTS, or ISO 9001, who are reluctant to share factory photos or video tours, or who quote prices significantly below market averages. Price anomalies almost always reflect quality compromises — usually in the form of lower-grade cotton, skipped quality checks, or substituted materials.
Communication and Specifications
Clear, detailed specifications are your best defense against misunderstandings. Every order should include precise requirements for fiber composition and origin, thread count and yarn count, weave type, GSM for towels, dimensions with tolerances, color specifications using Pantone codes or physical swatches, packaging and labeling, and inspection standards at specific AQL levels.
Payment and Terms
Standard payment terms for new relationships are 30 percent deposit with 70 percent against bill of lading. Letter of credit provides the most buyer protection but carries higher banking fees. For established relationships, telegraphic transfer with 30/70 or even open account terms may be available.
