Why QC Is Non-Negotiable
In textile manufacturing, the gap between a specification sheet and the actual product arriving at your warehouse can be substantial. Quality control bridges that gap. For hospitality buyers investing tens of thousands of dollars in bedding, robust QC is not optional — it is the difference between a product that delights guests for years and one that disappoints within months.
Key Inspection Stages
Incoming Raw Material Inspection
Quality control begins before a single thread is woven. Incoming cotton bales are tested for staple length, strength, micronaire fineness, and contamination. Dyes and chemicals are verified against safety data sheets and certification requirements. Catching issues at this stage prevents entire production runs from being compromised.
In-Process Inspection (DUPRO)
During production, inspectors check fabric as it comes off the loom for weaving defects, assess dye lot consistency, and monitor stitching quality on the sewing floor. DUPRO (During Production) inspection typically covers 20 to 30 percent of output and allows for real-time corrections.
Final Random Inspection (FRI)
Once production is complete and at least 80 percent packed, a final random inspection samples the finished goods against Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) standards. AQL 2.5 is the industry norm for hospitality textiles. For premium products, AQL 1.5 or 1.0 provides tighter standards.
Critical Tests for Bedding
Beyond visual inspection, key lab tests include dimensional stability with shrinkage after washing under 3 percent, color fastness to washing and rubbing at grade 3 to 4 minimum, tensile strength, seam slippage, and pilling resistance. These tests require specialized equipment and should be conducted by accredited third-party labs.
