The buyer needs to know which instrument was used, whether its range fits the measurement, how its status was controlled and whether the stated method was followed. Calibration evidence should support confidence in a result without being presented as a blanket certification of the product or laboratory.

Start with the test report or factory record. It should identify the characteristic, method, result, unit and enough equipment information to connect the reading to a controlled instrument. A general equipment list is weaker than a record that links a specific scale, tensile tester, thickness gauge or environmental monitor to the applicable method.

Check whether the instrument range and resolution are suitable for the expected value and tolerance. A device can be currently calibrated yet still be inappropriate for a particular measurement. Place this review within the buyer's bedding test plan so equipment questions follow product risk rather than becoming a paperwork exercise.

Check identity, date, result and limitations

A useful calibration record names the instrument, unique identifier, calibration date, relevant range or points, outcome, provider and next due status or control rule. Review whether the identifier matches the equipment used. A certificate for another model or an instrument in a different room does not support the reported measurement.

When calibration is overdue or equipment identity cannot be matched, do not simply delete the unfavorable result. Quarantine the decision, assess affected tests and agree whether valid retained specimens can be retested with suitable equipment. Record the disposition and any impact on the final inspection evidence already used for release.
